Abstract

Abstract This study aims to design teaching materials that represent the cultural diversity in Samarinda using a design research method. This research focuses on expert evaluation to measure the product's feasibility. The results from the expert evaluation indicate that the developed teaching materials have a high level of cultural relevance and accuracy. However, some improvements were recommended, such as using the more inclusive term "ethnic groups" and adding more culturally representative images. In terms of language clarity, the materials received a perfect score, deemed easy to understand and aligned with linguistic standards. The educational effectiveness was rated favorably, with suggestions to incorporate interactive elements like project-based activities to enhance student engagement, in line with the Merdeka Curriculum. The sequential structure of the content was also highly praised for supporting a structured learning process. Overall, the experts concluded that the teaching materials are highly suitable and viable as a learning resource to promote the understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity among students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate how the history of the Spice Route was taught in grade XI at SMA Negeri 6 Samarinda. The main focus of this study was on how the materials were implemented and the challenges faced when using the spice route materials for teaching. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the learning process, this study combined descriptive methods with qualitative approaches. Direct observation, teacher and student interviews, and supporting documentation were some of the data collection methods. The findings of the study indicate that the use of spice route materials for teaching history at SMA Negeri 6 Samarinda is quite effective. Teachers' learning planning prepares Learning Outcomes (LO), Learning Objective References (LOR), and teaching modules. The stages of implementing teacher learning use lecture and discussion learning methods. The evaluation given by the teacher is an essay assignment, students are asked to relate ocean exploration to the spice route. The obstacles experienced are the lack of diverse learning methods, the lack of student activity, and the teacher is too fast in explaining the material.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the spice route history material in history learning for Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 17 Samarinda. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection through direct observation, interviews with teachers and students, and supporting documentation. The findings indicate that the spice route material is not taught as a standalone topic but is combined with discussions on Colonialism and Indonesian National Resistance. As a result, the significance of spices as a world heritage with substantial influence on the economic, cultural, and religious dynamics of the Indonesian archipelago is not adequately addressed in classroom instruction. Consequently, students' understanding of the historical value of the spice route remains limited. Several challenges were identified in implementing this material, including a lack of adequate learning facilities such as relevant media and teaching aids, insufficient time allocation due to a dense curriculum, and limited learning resources-particularly textbooks that comprehensively cover the spice route topic. These issues hinder the effectiveness of the learning process and reduce the quality of material delivery.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of spice-route history material in history learning in Grade X at SMK Negeri 1 Samarinda. It aims to describe how the material is implemented within the Merdeka Curriculum, including the teaching strategies used and students’ responses to the integration of spice-route material in history learning. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that spice-route material is presented in Chapter 2 and functions as introductory material before broader topics, such as Hindu-Buddhist influence in Indonesia, are discussed. In the planning stage, teachers prepare Learning Outcomes (CP), Learning Objective Flow (ATP), and Teaching Modules. The learning resources used by teachers and students include school textbooks, articles, and other internet sources. The main obstacles faced by teachers and students are the limited availability of learning resources and restricted time allocation.

Abstract

Water transport once played a central role in Samarinda when road connectivity was still limited, especially before the construction of the Mahakam Bridge. This study examines the transformation from water to land transportation in Samarinda during 1980–1998 using the historical method through heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The findings show that the bridge, together with expanding road infrastructure and transport technology, made land travel faster and more efficient than river modes such as ferries, tambangan, and klotok. As a result, everyday mobility shifted toward land routes, river transport patronage declined, and the income of boat operators decreased. The case demonstrates how urban infrastructure reconfigured accessibility, travel behavior, and the socio-economic position of traditional river transport.
