Abstract

The objectives of the research were to make: (1) a list of Cryptogamic plants at Jobolarangan forest in mount Lawu,and (2) the actual condition of biodiversity conservation of the plants. All Cryptogamic plants on the forest were studied. The procedures of data collection were including species collection in the field, make up herbaria, observation of flora vegetation using transect method, morphology observation in the laboratory, and interview to residents and government administrations. The results showed that in the forest were found 77 species Cryptogamic plants, consisting of 27 species of fungi, 5 species of lichens, 20 species of Bryophyta and 25 species of Pterydophyta. Abstract

Soil fauna have important roles on increasing and maintaining soil productivity through it's function on organic decomposition processes, and optimizing physics, chemist and biology of soil characters. The research was conducted to investigate structure of the community of soil macrofauna from different stages of the age of sengon's (Paraserianthes falcataria) stand in wet season of year 2000. Pit fall trap and hand-shorting methods were used to catch soil macrofauna. Sampling was done on 8 different age stages (year) of sengon plant each with triplicate repetition. Twenty-seven macrofauna species in the soil and 26 macrofauna species in soil surface were found in this study. Those species belong to the phylum of Mollusc, Annelid and Arthropod. Pontoscolex sp and Lobopelta ocellifera were species that having high important value. Similarities analysis resulting in an index of 65% indicating low level of diversity differences among soil macrofauna from different ages of the sengon stand. Simple correlation analysis indicates that macrofauna diversity in the soil was closely related with soil organic content, domination of ground vegetation and soil humidity; while macrofauna diversity of soil surface was closely related with the level of light penetration.

Abstract

Litterbag experiment was carried out to determine the effect of crop residue application to soil fauna community andmungbean growth. The experiment arranged in randomized complete design with triplicate. The four treatment application of crotalarian, rice straw and banana’s aerial stem residues as well as without residue application as control. Soil fauna community and mungbean growth measured at 8 weeks after mungbean sown. Soil fauna extracted by modified Barless-Tullgren extractor apparatus. Height and dry weight of mungbean measured as crop growth parameters. The results indicated that the soil fauna densities and diversities as well as the growth of mungbean tended to increase by the application of crop residues. The effect of the treatment decreasing in thefollowing order: banana’s aerial stem residue > crotalarian residue > rice straw > without residue application.
