Fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) are one of the most economically important insect pests worldwide. Two types of attractants are recommended for monitoring and controlling fruit flies: methyl eugenol (ME) and cue-lure (C-L). The objective of this study was to investigate the species richness and abundance of fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) using methyl eugenol (ME) and cue-lure (C-L) in Depok City and Bogor District, West Java, Indonesia. The study was conducted in three sites of fruit orchards in Bogor District i.e., Malay apple (Syzygium malaccense), lemon (Citrus limon), papaya (Carica papaya), and two sites of fruit orchards in Depok City i.e., carambola (Averrhoa carambola) and guavas (Psidium guajava). Male fruit flies were trapped using Steiner traps baited with methyl eugenol (ME) and cue-lure (C-L). There were 11 fruit fly species collected from this study i.e., Bactrocera albistrigata, B. carambolae, B. dorsalis, B. neocognata, B. umbrosa, B. verbascifoliae, Dacus conopsoides, D. longicornis, Zeugodacus calumniata, Z. caudatus, and Z. cucurbitae. In this study, B. albistrigata, D. conopsoides, D. longicornis, and Z. caudatus were only collected in Steiner traps baited with C-L and B. dorsalis, and B. umbrosa also only responded to ME. During sampling periods, 20,217 male adult fruit flies were collected. The highest relative abundance attracted to ME was B. carambolae and C-L was Z. cucurbitae.  In this study, B. albistrigata, B. calumniate, D. longicornis, Z. caudatus, and Z. cucurbitae were significantly more attracted to C-L than ME. Whereas, B. carambolae, B. dorsalis, B. umbrosa, and B. verbascifoliae were significantly more attracted to ME than C-L. There were no invasive species in Depok City and Bogor District, West Java, Indonesia. Our study can be used as a method for monitoring and controlling fruit flies, namely Steiner trap with C-L for Z. cucurbitae and Steiner trap with ME for B. carambolae, B. dorsalis, and B. umbrosa in Depok City and Bogor District, West Java, Indonesia.

Bactrocera Macquart, 1835 fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) are among the most important pests in horticultural commodities worldwide, including horticultural crops in Indonesia. Trapping is suggested to control, eradicate, and suppress fruit flies. The presence of natural enemies is a very important factor in the indicators of agroecosystem balance. This study aimed to monitor the species composition of Bactrocera fruit flies and their parasitoids in several horticultural commodities such as apples, large chili, red guava, sweet citrus, and tomatoes in Batu City and Malang District. Trapping and host-rearing methods were used in this research. A total of 7,124 individuals of Bactrocera were collected using a Steiner trap baited with methyl eugenol. They consisted of six species: Bactrocera carambolae Drew & Hancock, 1994; Bactrocera cucurbitae (Coquillett, 1899); Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel, 1912); Bactrocera verbascifoliae Drew & Hancock, 1994; Bactrocera papayae Drew & Hancock, 1994; and Bactrocera umbrosa (Fabricius, 1805). The B. carambolae, B. dorsalis, and B. papayae were the three predominant species collected using Steiner traps baited with methyl eugenol. Based on the host-rearing method, B. carambolae and B. dorsalis were found in red guava fruit. Only one parasitoid species, Opius sp., was found in red guava fruit. These results provide valuable insights into the distribution of Bactrocera on horticultural commodities in Batu City and Malang District and the potential challenges regarding parasitoid presence.

The dugong (Dugong dugon (Müller 1776)), an endangered herbivorous marine mammal, is listed as the Red List of the IUCN and CITES Appendix I. Considering its protected categorizing, its population is persistently decreasing globally, particularly in Indonesia, accordingly requiring significant conservation measures. This study aimed to assess the conservation status of the species, analyze the morphology, morphometry, and genetic profile of stranded dugongs, and evaluate surrounding seagrass meadows. Fieldwork undertaken in February, March, and September 2023 concentrated on stranded dugongs, gathering morphological, morphometric, and genetic data, in addition to surveying seagrass habitats using satellite photography. Morphological observations encompassed 14 criteria, whilst tissue samples from pectoral fins were utilized for genetic profiling by phylogenetic analysis. Geographic coordinates identified stranded dugongs, whereas seagrass regions were assessed with Sentinel-2 data and QGIS. The results indicated that genetic investigation verified the species' strong affinity with populations in the Java Sea and New Zealand, with more divergence from dugongs in Kerala, India. The seagrass beds adjacent to the dugongs' habitat ranged from 0.21 to 16.68 hectares within a larger network of 55.38 to 85.35 hectares, underscoring their potential as a protection zone. These findings underscore the essential link between dugong conservation and seagrass ecosystem conservation, making it clear that both aspects are interconnected and necessitate combined protection methods.
