Abstract

Abstract: The kris is an Indonesian intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO and preserved at Museum Keris Nusantara (MKN). However, the communication of its historical, philosophical, and cultural values at MKN has not yet effectively reached younger generations and international audiences due to the absence of thematic, bilingual promotional-educational videos that are both persuasive and validated curatorially and linguistically. This community engagement program aimed to enhance cultural literacy through the development of promotional-educational videos based on international collaboration. The program was implemented through six stages using a participatory mentoring method with the AIDA persuasive communication model, communicative translation, and transcreation approaches, involving three partners. They are Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), MKN, and The University of Western Australia (UWA)—and about 25 participants, with evaluation conducted through Focus Group Discussions and a 1–5 ordinal scale at each stage. The program produced five bilingual promotional-educational videos, with 83% of success indicators fully achieved. This program contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through enhanced cultural literacy, project-based learning experiences, and international cross-institutional collaboration. The program produced five bilingual promotional-educational videos, with 83% of output success indicators fully achieved; this reflects the success of the development and validation process rather than a directly measured improvement in beneficiaries’ cultural literacy. An initial literacy assesment with five international viewers from different countries showed highly positive responses (mean 4.64 of 5), all within the agree-to-strongly-agree range. The program supports SDG 4 and SDG 17 through validated cultural-education media and cross-institutional collaboration, while larger-scale impact measurement is recommended as a follow-up.
