Abstract

One of solutions to address the increasing demands for data traffic by mobile users is to implement ultra dense network (UDN). UDN consists of many femtocells that are densely deployed on macrocellular communication networks. Since femtocells radius is very short and they are tightly packed, it faces interferences problem i.e., co-tier and cross-tier interferences. This paper proposes interference management technique based on clustering method for UDN multicellular communication networks at downlink transmission. It is purposed to reduce interference effects. To evaluate the proposed clustering method, two simulation scenarios have been designed; namely baseline system and system with the proposed clustering method. The scenarios applied is to randomly distribute femtocells following a uniform distribution in three macrocells areas. Through a clustering algorithm, adjacent femtocells are grouped into one cluster and assigned different frequency channels for each femtocell in that cluster. The same cluster pattern is repeated for all femtocells. Thus, interference effect is canceled within one cluster and reduced among clusters by widening the distance among femtocells that use the same frequency channels. Through simulation experiment, the proposed clustering method is evaluated and compared to the baseline system. The simulation results show that Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) of femtocells increases 0.44 dB, throughput increases 1.67%, Bit Error Rate (BER) reduces, and other parameters improve as well which include spectral efficiency, network energy, and average network energy. The proposed clustering method increases performances of the networks and provides better solution for transmission data speed in densely femtocell network.

Abstract

Ultra dense network (UDN) and reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) are two latest technologies in encountering the increasing demands for network capacity and quality of service in wireless cellular networks. UDN is created by densely deploying femtocells in macrocells area. It causes complex interferences because distances among femtocells are likely very close. RIS provides solution in regulating the reflection of the signal emitted from the transmitter to the receiver to resolve the obstacles. However, RIS reflects the interference signals as well causing more complex interference problems. This paper proposes a solution using clustering method as interference management in RIS-aided UDN network. By clustering method, nearby femtocells are grouped and allocated different frequency channels among femtocells in a cluster. The performance of two systems–the baseline system and the one employing a clustering method–is evaluated based on signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR), throughput, and bit error rate (BER). Simulation results indicate that SINR and throughput improved by 1.57% and 1.73%, respectively. Meanwhile, the BER for the baseline system is 5.78×10-8 and decreased when applying the proposed method system with a value of 2.26×10-8. The proposed clustering method is promising to confront the interference problems.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This literature review comprehensively examines the integration of power flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, and relay coordination in electrical power distribution systems. Drawing upon 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and textbooks published between 2015 and 2023, this review synthesizes methodologies, findings, and trends across three interrelated domains. Power flow analysis underpins system planning and operational efficiency; short-circuit analysis ensures equipment rating adequacy and safety; and protective relay coordination guarantees selective fault isolation and system continuity. The increasing penetration of distributed generation (DG), photovoltaic (PV) systems, and battery energy storage (BESS) presents unprecedented challenges to traditional protection paradigms, necessitating adaptive and integrated analytical approaches. This review identifies research gaps, highlights emerging tools such as heuristic optimization and smart-grid-enabled adaptive protection, and proposes directions for future integrated distribution system analysis frameworks.

Abstract

Ultra-Dense Networks (UDN) and Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) have emerged as two pivotal technologies for meeting the growing demand for network capacity and service quality. UDN boosts capacity by densely deploying femtocells, whereas RIS broadens coverage by relaying obstructed signals toward the receiver. However, the dense femtocell deployment introduces co-tier and cross-tier interference, and the reflective nature of RIS aggravates this problem, since interfering signals are likewise steered toward the receiver. To overcome this, the present study proposes an adaptive interference management scheme that combines dynamic clustering and Soft Fractional Frequency Reuse (Soft-FFR) within a RIS-assisted UDN. Clustering suppresses co-tier interference, while re-clustering and channel allocation are triggered by the network state, namely the estimated SINR and service zone of each femtocell. Four system models baseline, Dynamic Clustering, dynamic Soft-FFR, and the proposed integration were simulated on a three-macrocell network with up to 330 femtocells. The proposed method achieves the best overall performance among the evaluated schemes. Compared with the baseline, the SINR CDF at 20 dB falls from 64% to 43% and the throughput CDF at 70 Mbps decreases from 84% to 62%, indicating that a substantially larger proportion of users attain high SINR and throughput. The spectral efficiency at 330 HeNBs increases from 5.9 to 6.9 bit/s/Hz, and the bit error rate is reduced from about 0.13 to 0.05. These results confirm that adaptively integrating Dynamic Clustering and Soft-FFR effectively suppresses both co-tier and cross-tier interference, thereby improving the reliability and spectral efficiency of dense RIS-assisted UDNs.
