Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of the role playing method based on Balinese mesatwa “Kambing Takutin Macan” as an innovative strategy to improve students’ language skills at the elementary school level. The role playing method is an active learning approach that directly engages students in enacting the roles of story characters, thereby encouraging authentic and contextual language use. The Balinese mesatwa “Kambing Takutin Macan” was selected as the story basis because it contains rich dialogues, engaging conflicts, and high moral values that provide an ideal context for language skill development. The method used is a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach. The results show that the application of the role playing method based on Balinese mesatwa significantly improves four dimensions of students’ language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These findings confirm that Balinese mesatwa represents an authentic, contextual, and meaningful local wisdom-based learning resource for developing language skills in elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of School-Based Management (SBM) implementation in improving educational quality through a SWOT analysis at SD No. 5 Darmasaba. Although SBM has been implemented comprehensively, several challenges remain, including limited program documentation, uneven stakeholder involvement, and constraints in personnel management. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observations, interviews, documentation, and the distribution of SBM implementation questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted by identifying the school's internal and external factors, including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The findings revealed that the implementation of SBM at SD No. 5 Darmasaba was highly effective, achieving a score of 214 out of a maximum of 219 points. The school's strengths include participative principal leadership, teacher professionalism, transparent financial management, and harmonious relationships with the community. The identified weaknesses were related to program documentation and the school's limited authority in personnel management. Opportunities stem from community support, government policies, technological advancements, and collaboration with various stakeholders, while threats include changes in educational policies and competition among schools. Based on the SWOT analysis, SBM implementation has proven effective in enhancing educational quality by optimizing school resources, strengthening stakeholder participation, and supporting the achievement of educational goals in an effective and efficient manner. The findings suggest that SWOT analysis can serve as a foundation for formulating sustainable school development strategies.
