Abstract

This study discusses emotional and behavioral disorders in children with special needs at SLB Negeri Banda Aceh, focusing on aggression, depression, and tantrum behaviors. Emotional and behavioral disorders are important issues in special education because they affect children’s emotional development, social interaction, and learning activities at school. This study aimed to describe the forms of emotional and behavioral disorders experienced by children with special needs and to identify teachers’ strategies in handling these behaviors. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques consisting of interviews, observations, and documentation. The participant in this study was the homeroom teacher of grade 1 elementary students at SLB Negeri Banda Aceh. The findings showed that emotional and behavioral disorders appeared in forms such as crying, screaming, refusing interaction, emotional outbursts, self-isolation, and tantrum behaviors. These behaviors were influenced by emotional conditions, communication difficulties, environmental changes, and family situations. The study also found that emotional approaches, interpersonal closeness, and collaboration between teachers and parents were important in helping children control their emotions and behaviors at school.
