Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary school plays an important role in developing students’ logical, critical, and systematic thinking skills. However, in practice, mathematics learning in the classroom is still often carried out using conventional learning methods that are teacher-centered. This condition causes students to be less active in the learning process and easily feel bored, which ultimately affects their learning outcomes. Therefore, it is necessary to apply a learning model that can increase students' participation and involvement in learning activities. One of the learning models that can be applied is Project Based Learning (PjBL). This study aims to describe the application of the Project Based Learning model towards mathematics learning outcomes of elementary school students. The method used in this research is a literature study (library research) by reviewing various sources such as books, scientific journals, and previous research related to the topic. The data used in this study were obtained from ten journal articles discussing the implementation of Project Based Learning in mathematics learning at the elementary school level. The results of the literature review indicate that the implementation of the Project Based Learning model can improve students’ mathematics learning outcomes. In addition, this learning model is also able to increase students’ learning motivation, collaboration skills, and critical thinking abilities during the learning process. Therefore, Project Based Learning can be used as an effective learning model to improve mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools. Abstract

The implementation of the National Curriculum requires elementary school teachers to be able to design in-depth, integrated learning based on 21st-century skills. However, most teachers still have limited understanding of the concept of deep learning and how to integrate the STEAM approach into lesson plans. This gap has encouraged the implementation of community service activities in the form of training on the development and implementation of deep learning-based STEAM instruction for elementary school teachers in Tanah Datar Regency. This activity aims to improve conceptual understanding, the ability to design integrative lesson plans (RPP), and skills in implementing innovative classroom learning. The methods used include conceptual training, workshops on developing STEAM-based lesson plans, teaching simulations, science and technology diffusion through the development of digital teaching media, and classroom implementation mentoring. Data were collected through pre- and post-assessments as well as observations of participants’ active involvement. The results showed a significant improvement in three main aspects: understanding of the deep learning concept, the ability to design integrated STEAM lesson plans, and the skills to develop collaborative learning strategies. Qualitatively, teachers produced outputs in the form of integrative lesson plans and creative teaching media using Canva and Wordwall as indicators of the program’s success. The discussion indicates that a practice-based training approach, supported by continuous mentoring and institutional support, is effective in improving teachers’ pedagogical competence. This program can serve as a model for elementary school teacher professional development in rural areas to accelerate the readiness for implementing the National Curriculum based on STEAM comprehensively. Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the results of previous research on the use of the Discovery Learning model in improving the writing skills of elementary school students. This study employed a literature review method by collecting various relevant sources, such as scientific journals, research articles, books, and seminar proceedings. The sources used were drawn from journals indexed in Google Scholar and SINTA published between 2019 and 2026. Data collection techniques involved reading, noting, and categorizing information relevant to the research topic. Data analysis employed content analysis. The findings indicate that the Discovery Learning model effectively enhances elementary school students’ writing skills because students are more actively engaged in seeking information, developing ideas, structuring paragraphs, and presenting concepts systematically. Furthermore, the Discovery Learning model can also enhance students’ learning motivation, creativity, critical thinking skills, and participation in Indonesian language learning. Thus, the Discovery Learning model can serve as an alternative instructional model to improve elementary school students’ writing skills. Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving ability among Indonesian elementary school students remains at a concerning level, as evidenced by Indonesia’s 68th-place ranking out of 81 countries in PISA 2022 and findings from the 2023 National Competency-Based Assessment (ANBK) showing that more than half of elementary students have not reached the minimum competency standard. This situation calls for the implementation of innovative learning models as a solution, one of which is the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, which places authentic problems at the center of learning and is proven to encourage students to actively construct understanding through contextual inquiry. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the PBL model in improving mathematical problem-solving skills of elementary school students using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, encompassing an analysis of 35 selected journal articles published between 2019 and 2026, sourced from Google Scholar, SINTA, Garuda, and university repositories in Indonesia. Findings across the reviewed studies consistently reveal that PBL effectively and significantly improves students’ mathematical problem-solving ability, with an average effect size classified as large (d = 0.81). PBL effectiveness is influenced by four key moderating factors: quality of the problems used, teacher facilitation competency, duration of implementation, and learning group composition. This study recommends the systematic and sustained application of PBL in elementary mathematics instruction as a concrete step toward improving students’ mathematical competence nationally.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at an elementary school in Padang, especially on the topic of geometric nets. Preliminary data shows that only 15% of students achieve the minimum completion criteria. This research aims to improve student learning outcomes by implementing the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model integrated with the principles of Deep Learning (Mindful, Meaningful, and Joyful Learning). The methodology used is the Classroom Action Research (CAR) model of Kemmis and McTaggart which consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 20 fifth-grade students. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and tests, which were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative techniques (mixed-methods). The results of the study showed a significant increase in the quality of learning and student achievement. Teacher activity scores increased from 86.11% in Cycle I to 94.44% in Cycle II, while student activity increased from 83.33% to 91.67%. Furthermore, the average student learning outcomes increased from 69.5 in Cycle I to 81.13 in Cycle II, with a completion percentage reaching 80%. It can be concluded that the Deep Learning integrated PjBL model effectively improves learning outcomes for elementary school students on spatial nets by transforming abstract concepts into concrete projects.
