Abstract

The teacher is the most influential figure in shaping students' character, yet studies examining this role comprehensively remain limited. This study aims to map the various roles of teachers as agents of character formation in elementary schools, as well as to identify the strategies they employ and the outcomes achieved. A systematic literature review was conducted by analyzing ten scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals between 2020 and 2026. The findings reveal that teachers exercise their formative role through at least five core pathways: modeling ethical conduct in daily interactions, establishing consistent positive routines, embedding character values across subject content, providing affirmative reinforcement, and conducting reflective daily observations. Quantitative evidence indicates that teachers' personality competence accounts for 71.7% of the variance in students' character development, while qualitative studies confirm that sustained routine activities such as morning assemblies and prosocial training sessions yield measurable gains in discipline, responsibility, and cooperative behavior. Teachers who design and utilize creative instructional media including comic-based materials and illustrated storybooks further strengthen character traits such as learning independence. These findings underscore that teacher quality and pedagogical intentionality are the decisive factors in the success of character education programs.
