Abstract

In simple terms, geothermal classification is determined according to reservoir equilibrium, fluid type, and temperature. Based on the reservoir temperature, geothermal systems are separated into two different systems: dynamic system (convection) and static system (conduction). This system structure is also affected by topography which is further specified as a high-temperature fluid reservoir. The relationship between the characteristics of the hot springs and geothermal potential is instructive to be analyzed. The objective of the analysis is to determine critical parameters: The chemical composition of the water and the source of origin of the water. Hydrogeochemical studies including analysis of major element analysis; ratio stable isotopes δ18O and δ2H of samples from springs, rivers, and wells used to determine the character of hot springs. The primary element examination shows that the sample ions composition from the hot springs is dominated by three types of rock sources: shale; sandstone; and quartzite rocks. It also reveals that sample hot springs can be considered thermal water (based on the Piper Diagram), and classified as water and rock interactions dominant based on the Gibbs diagram.

Abstract

This study examines the legal substance and regulatory system in West Papua Regional Regulation Number 5 of 2023 concerning Community Mining and West Papua Governor Regulation Number 16 of 2024 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining Management. The normative legal method uses literature studies to analyze the direction of the West Papua Provincial Government's policy in managing community mining under the Special Autonomy framework. The study results indicate inconsistencies between regional policies and national forestry regulations, especially regarding determining Community Mining Areas (WPR), most located in protected forest areas. In addition, there are no explicit provisions regarding the involvement of indigenous peoples as the main stakeholders in the licensing process. For this reason, it is necessary to take strategic steps to align policies between the central and regional governments with local conditions and to formally recognize the rights and roles of Indigenous peoples in governing community mining in West Papua.

Abstract

This study aims to provide accurate spatial data to support ecotourism planning in Mansinam Village through the application of a Geographic Information System (GIS). Field data acquisition was conducted using a handheld GPS to record the coordinates of infrastructure and tourist attractions. The data was then processed in ArcGIS software through the stages of georeferencing, digitization, overlay analysis, and thematic map creation. This follows spatial mapping standards commonly used in geological mapping and spatial analysis activities in the mining sector. This study produced two thematic maps: a Settlement Map and a Map of Tourist Attraction Locations in Mansinam Village. Both maps provide spatial information on settlement locations, accessibility levels, and the distribution of natural, cultural, religious, and historical tourist attractions. The spatial analysis demonstrates the relationship between accessibility and tourism development potential, while also identifying locations requiring infrastructure improvements. In addition to contributing to tourism planning, the mapping process used also demonstrates methodological alignment with geological mapping and spatial analysis practices commonly used in the mining sector. The findings of this study are expected to provide an empirical basis for local governments and stakeholders in formulating more targeted and sustainable regional development strategies.

Abstract

This study is undertaken in response to the potential of beach sand in the coastal area of North Manokwari, West Papua, which contains magnetic materials; however, its utilization remains limited due to the lack of simple and applicable separation technologies. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a prototype magnetic separator and to analyze the effect of belt speed variations on recovery and enrichment ratio (ER). The research employed a laboratory-based experimental method with a quantitative approach, using sand samples collected from Mubraidiba Village. Experiments were conducted at four belt speed variations (25.57, 38.22, 63.11, and 82.37 m/min), each performed in triplicate. The results indicate that belt speed significantly influences separation performance. The highest recovery (97.04%) was achieved at 25.57 m/min, while increasing belt speed reduced recovery to an average of 18.76% at the highest speed. Conversely, the ER increased with increasing belt speed, indicating an inverse relationship between recovery and concentrate grade. These findings demonstrate that belt speed is a critical operational parameter that should be adjusted according to processing objectives. Furthermore, the developed prototype exhibits promising performance as a simple and practical alternative for magnetic separation technology.
