Abstract

This study aims to delve deeper into the understanding of metacognitive strategies in students’ Arabic writing. Metacognitive strategies in Arabic writing are crucial because this language is not their mother tongue in their habits. Moreover, there are substantial differences between sounds and writing symbols in Arabic that have distinct characteristics compared to foreign languages, like European languages in particular. Using the non-experimental method, we used 40 samples of mid-year students studying in the Arabic Language Study Program. They are given instructions to write an Arabic essay within the allotted time. We tested the data from the questionnaire using statistical descriptive and Pearson's correlational techniques. Meanwhile, the results of student essay writing were assessed according to the criteria of Holly L. Jacob. Through statistical descriptive tests, it was found that the average use of metacognitive strategies (MS) was 71.70, while the average essay score (ES) was 80.60. Based on Pearson's correlation test, it was found that Sig. (2-tailed) MS and ES were 0.078 and Pearson correlation was 0.282. Through these calculations, it shows that there is no correlation between the x and y variables, positive correlation values, and weak degrees. Meanwhile, based on the observation of the assessment results, it shows that there are repeated errors in organizing, language use, and writing techniques. These findings show that MS that is good at writing Arabic without adequate writing knowledge will produce less quality writing. And vice versa, adequate author knowledge without a good MS will result in less structured and coherent writing.

Abstract

In teaching Arabic a teacher needs special ways that can facilitate students to receive lessons. This particular method is based on the educational background of students, age, social, culture, factors of need and so forth. To formulate it, a comparative study between student language and the second language is studied. This formulation is very helpful for students in understanding and applying Arabic, which begins with a comparative study of the syntax of the two languages. This qualitative descriptive research results in the conclusion that students are able to apply certain sentences easily because the elements of similarity are preferred in learning them.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of students to understand Arabic texts in Arabic language learning for class IX C at MTs Irsyadun Nasyi’in. Students still experienced difficulties in reading, comprehending texts, and mastering basic Arabic grammar such as nahwu and sharaf. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Qiro’ah method in Arabic language learning and to identify the obstacles and teacher strategies in improving students’ reading skills. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of an Arabic language teacher and students of class IX C. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was examined using source triangulation and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that the implementation of the Qiro’ah method was carried out through planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The teacher applied vocabulary and grammatical approaches by emphasizing the mastery of nahwu and sharaf as the foundation for understanding Arabic texts. The implementation of the Qiro’ah method gradually improved students’ participation and reading ability. However, several obstacles were still found, including low learning motivation, limited vocabulary mastery, weak understanding of Arabic grammar, and limited learning media and Arabic-speaking environment. To overcome these obstacles, the teacher conducted reading habituation, provided learning motivation, and applied more varied learning strategies. Therefore, the Qiro’ah method can be considered an alternative learning method to improve students’ Arabic reading skills and text comprehension.

Abstract

Understanding the learning style profiles of Generation Z Arabic language university students is crucial, as their technology-driven cognitive patterns often misalign with conventional pedagogical approaches, necessitating adaptive strategies to optimize Arabic language learning in higher education. This study aims to investigate the learning style profiles of Generation Z students in Arabic Language Departement of Universitas Al-Falah As-Sunniyah Jember East Java Indonesia. By employing a descriptive statistical design, this research analyzes the distribution and dominance of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities among 48 respondents. The results of this study indicate that the learning style of Generation Z students is significantly oriented toward kinesthetic (mean = 8.00) and visual (mean = 7.56) modalities, while the auditory aspect shows the lowest preference (mean = 6.63). These findings suggest a cognitive shift in digital-native students who prioritize physical engagement and structured visual representation over conventional auditory instructions. The study further identifies that the main obstacles in Arabic learning stem from mismatched pedagogical methods that rely heavily on lecturing. Consequently, this research recommends the integration of multimodal learning strategies, such as interactive infographics and experiential learning activities, to optimize students' memory retention and linguistic competence in the 21st-century educational context.
