Abstract

This study aims to delve deeper into the understanding of metacognitive strategies in students’ Arabic writing. Metacognitive strategies in Arabic writing are crucial because this language is not their mother tongue in their habits. Moreover, there are substantial differences between sounds and writing symbols in Arabic that have distinct characteristics compared to foreign languages, like European languages in particular. Using the non-experimental method, we used 40 samples of mid-year students studying in the Arabic Language Study Program. They are given instructions to write an Arabic essay within the allotted time. We tested the data from the questionnaire using statistical descriptive and Pearson's correlational techniques. Meanwhile, the results of student essay writing were assessed according to the criteria of Holly L. Jacob. Through statistical descriptive tests, it was found that the average use of metacognitive strategies (MS) was 71.70, while the average essay score (ES) was 80.60. Based on Pearson's correlation test, it was found that Sig. (2-tailed) MS and ES were 0.078 and Pearson correlation was 0.282. Through these calculations, it shows that there is no correlation between the x and y variables, positive correlation values, and weak degrees. Meanwhile, based on the observation of the assessment results, it shows that there are repeated errors in organizing, language use, and writing techniques. These findings show that MS that is good at writing Arabic without adequate writing knowledge will produce less quality writing. And vice versa, adequate author knowledge without a good MS will result in less structured and coherent writing.

Abstract

The failure of learning Arabic can occur because of the measurability of the tests used to test students' abilities which results in information on student learning outcomes that are not mapped properly. This article aimed to analyze the HOTS-based Arabic thematic test items for class XII MAN 3 Jember in the 2020/2021 academic year in ar-riyāḍah and ash-syabāb material. Researchers used quantitative methods with item measurement techniques through the multiple-choice item analysis application Anates Version 4.0.2. The research findings showed that of the 15 questions tested, there were 9 questions that had not been HOTS, reliability was 0.78, and distractors number 4, 10, 11, and 14 could not be used. There were 4 questions with inappropriate interpretation and the rest were feasible with improvement. The questions being tested still need to be corrected both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Abstract

The philosophy of language and mind plays an important role in language learning, especially in the context of Arabic language learning. However, more in-depth research is needed to understand the implications of these philosophical concepts in Arabic language learning. This study aims to investigate the implications of the philosophy of language and mind in the context of Arabic language learning. The research method used is library research, which involves a review of literature related to philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, and Arabic language learning. Analysis of the literature shows that philosophy-based approaches can be an important basis in learning development, including curriculum development, learning methods, and teacher and student skills. The implications of the findings highlight the importance of adopting a philosophy-based approach to Arabic language learning by designing curriculum and teaching methods that take into account the close relationship between language and mind.
