Abstract

This research aims to investigate the impact of the LearnEnglish Grammar application on eighth-grade students' grammar mastery at MTs Muhammadiyah Metro, identify any significant differences between students taught using the application and those taught through conventional methods, and explore students' perceptions of the application. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, the study involved two groups: an experimental group using the application and a control group receiving traditional instruction. Cluster random sampling was used to select class 8B as the experimental group and class 8C as the control group, each consisting of 14 students. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, and questionnaires. The results of the Paired Sample T-Test showed a significant improvement in grammar mastery within the experimental group (Sig. < 0.000), indicating a positive impact of the application. However, the Independent Sample T-Test results showed no significant difference between the two groups (Sig. = 0.057), indicating that learning with the traditional method provided comparable results to the app. The questionnaire results showed that students had a generally positive perception of the app, finding it useful, easy to use, and engaging. The findings conclude that LearnEnglish Grammar app enhances grammar learning although its effectiveness is comparable to conventional instruction, and future research is suggested to further investigate the use of LearnEnglish Grammar app with longer treatment duration and larger sample.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia’s expanding digital legal-service ecosystem has brought generative AI into public-facing legal assistance, yet its authority is increasingly produced through platform discourse before its professional, ethical, and regulatory boundaries are fully settled. Objective: This study aims to examine how generative AI is represented in Indonesian digital legal services and how such representation shifts AI from a tool of legal assistance toward a form of automated authority. Method: Using critical discourse analysis, this study analyses 27 publicly accessible documents consisting of platform pages, app descriptions, professional media articles, legal-policy documents, and regulatory-context materials. Results: Findings show that AI authority is constructed through professional research vocabulary, efficiency claims, innovation narratives, access-to-justice language, and references to regulatory accountability. Findings also indicate that users are positioned as self-service legal actors whose access to law is mediated by platform interfaces, automated summaries, guided consultation, and document-generation tools. Implication: Findings further reveal that accountability is unevenly articulated, with legal responsibility often dispersed across professionals, users, ethical soft regulation, data-protection discourse, and platform claims. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in shifting Indonesian AI-law scholarship from adoption and regulation debates toward the discursive production of automated legal authority.
Narratives of resistance: political allegory in post-reform Indonesian novels Refai

Abstract

Background: Post-Reform Indonesian literature reflects a complex negotiation between memory, power, and freedom, where political allegory becomes a medium of cultural resistance and moral reflection. Objective: This study aims to examine how post-1998 Indonesian novels construct narratives of resistance through political allegory, metaphorical discourse, and ideological positioning. Method: Using a qualitative interpretive method that integrates Narrative Analysis (Labov & Waletzky), Allegorical-Symbolic Analysis (Frye), and Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough), ten novels published between 1998 and 2020 were analyzed as this research corpus. Results: The findings reveal three major patterns: first, economic metaphors such as “corruption = disease” and “capital = monster” dominate the symbolic critique of power; second, ideological metaphors articulate plural resistance—especially feminist and religious reformist stances—through dialogic narrative structures; and third, lexical metaphors like “fire,” “blood,” and “silence” establish an evolving language of dissent that connects trauma, identity, and justice. Implication: These results imply that metaphor functions not merely as ornamentation but as a cognitive and ideological structure that shapes how Indonesian readers and writers imagine democracy and moral recovery. Novelty: This study enriches literary and cultural discourse by showing how allegory operates as a sociopolitical grammar of resistance in post-authoritarian Indonesia.
