Abstract

Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) are essential first-aid interventions in emergency situations, such as respiratory and cardiac arrest. Knowledge and skills related to BLS are crucial for Indonesian Navy personnel, particularly diving unit members, to enhance their preparedness in responding to emergency situations during duty. Based on the identified needs of the partner institution, strengthening knowledge and skills related to CPR implementation in accordance with the latest guidelines was considered necessary. This community service program aimed to improve the capacity of Indonesian Navy diving personnel in performing BLS and CPR. The program was conducted through health education, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and re-demonstration using mannequins involving 15 diving personnel from Satkopebba Pondok Dayung. Evaluation was carried out using pre-tests, post-tests, and observation of participants' practical skills. The evaluation results showed a mean pre-test score of 7.40 and a mean post-test score of 7.47, descriptively indicating a tendency toward improved participants' understanding after the educational intervention. The findings also demonstrated an improvement in participants' understanding of BLS and CPR concepts. Based on the skills observation, all participants successfully performed the Danger, Response, and Send for Help steps (100%), while achievement rates for the Airway, Breathing, and Circulation components were 86.7%, 80.0%, and 93.3%, respectively, indicating that most participants demonstrated good competency in performing CPR procedures. This program has the potential to enhance the knowledge, skills, and emergency preparedness of Indonesian Navy diving personnel in managing emergency situations.
