The Effectiveness of the 3W2H Strategy in Writing Explanatory Texts: Experiences Learned from Indonesian Learners Alfi, Kunti Zahrotun; Syamsi, Kastam

Abstract

Writing explanatory text is a complex skill and requires a deep understanding of the topic, so strategies are needed that can help. This research aims to test the effectiveness of the 3W2H strategy in learning to write explanatory texts in high school. The research design uses quantitative with a quasi-experimental design. The research population was all class XI students at SMAN 1 Mojolaban, totaling 354 students. Samples were taken using cluster random sampling techniques so that 42 students were obtained as the experimental class and 48 students as the control class. Data is collected through performance tests. Research validity uses content validity, namely consulting experts. The collected data was then analyzed using ANOVA and Scheffe's test. The research results showed that the average pre-test and post-test results for writing explanatory text for the experimental group using the 3W2H strategy were 58.48 and 83.14, while for the control group it was 61.92 and 70.3. These results show that the experimental group increased by 42.21%, while the control group increased by 13.53%. Apart from that, the p value is <0.001 or smaller, so it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the posttest results of the experimental and control groups. Furthermore, the Scheffe test results show a p value <0.01 or smaller than 0.05, so the research shows that the 3W2H strategy is more effective than conventional strategies. These results indicate that the 3W2H strategy can be an alternative in writing explanatory text.

Abstract

This study discusses the violation of the politeness principle in Javanese women by the character Bu Tejo in the film "Tilik: The Series". Through this research, it is hoped that it can increase understanding of the importance of maintaining politeness in the context of Javanese culture and building harmonious and respectful communication. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method to explain the politeness principles in Javanese women's language as explained by the character Bu Tejo in the film "Tilik: The Series. The data was obtained from the dialogue spoken by Bu Tejo, which violated the principle of politeness in language, and data collection was carried out through the see note method with sociopragmatic analysis. The results of the study showed that (1) the violation of the maxim of respect was carried out with subtle satire; (2) the violation of the maxim of wisdom was carried out by stereotyping gender and insulting physical appearance; (3) Bu Tejo violated the maxim of sympathy by insulting Tari's facial expressions and satirizing Pak Subari; (4) Bu Tejo violated the maxim of agreement by expressing disapproval and forcing something with expressive directive speech and intonation that tends to rise; (5) Bu Tejo violated the maxim of modesty through exaggerated expressions with stereotyping of work; and (6) Bu Tejo violated the maxim of generosity by being cynical, arrogant, and blaming others. Keywords: principle of politeness, javanese women's language, Tilik the Series   Penelitian ini membahas mengenai pelanggaran prinsip kesantunan berbahasa perempuan Jawa yang dilakukan oleh tokoh Bu Tejo dalam Film “Tilik The Series”. Melalui penelitian ini, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman mengenai pentingnya menjaga kesantunan berbahasa dalam konteks budaya Jawa dan membangun komunikasi yang harmonis serta saling menghormati. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menjelaskan prinsip kesantunan berbahasa perempuan Jawa oleh tokoh Bu Tejo dalam Film “Tilik The Series. Data diperoleh dari dialog yang dituturkan oleh Bu Tejo yang melanggar prinsip kesantunan berbahasa, dan pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui metode simak catat dengan analisis sosiopragmatik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) pelanggaran maksim penghargaan dilakukan dengan bahasa sindiran halus, (2) pelanggaran maksim kebijaksanaan dilakukan dengan stereotipisasi terhadap jenis kelamin dan menghina tampilan fisik, (3) Bu Tejo melanggar maksim kesimpatian dengan menghina ekspresi wajah Tari dan menyindir Pak Subari, (4) Bu Tejo melanggar maksim permufakatan dengan menyatakan ketidaksetujuan dan memaksakan sesuatu dengan tuturan direktif ekspresif serta intonasi yang cenderung naik, (5) Bu Tejo melanggar maksim kesederhanaan melalui ungkapan yang berlebihan dengan stereotipisasi terhadap pekerjaan, (6) Bu Tejo melanggar maksim kedermawanan dengan sikap sinis, sombong, dan menyalahkan orang lain. Kata Kunci: prinsip kesantunan, bahasa perempuan jawa, Tilik the Series
