Abstract

Law enforcement in cases involving juvenile offenders requires a specific approach, as children are still in the developmental stage. This study aims to analyze the application of restorative justice principles in the handling of juvenile criminal cases at the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police. The research employs an empirical juridical method, with primary data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. A sociological legal approach is used to examine the implementation of restorative justice policies in social practice. The findings indicate that out of 78 juvenile criminal cases, approximately 70% were resolved through restorative justice mechanisms involving mediation between offenders, victims, families, and community leaders. This approach emphasizes the restoration of social relationships, accountability of juvenile offenders, and out-of-court case resolution to prevent negative impacts on children’s psychological development. Nevertheless, the implementation of restorative justice still faces several challenges, including limited public understanding, resource constraints, and inconsistencies in policy application.
