Abstract

The presence of artificial intelligence (AI) affects the journalistic workflow. Like a sword, AI technology presents both threats and opportunities. Indonesia is one of the countries that adopts AI technology in the journalistic process. Then, how is AI implemented, constructed, and what challenges are faced? Through a case study, this study collected data through semi-structured interviews with 5 national digital media managers, including Narasi.tv, Antaranews.com, Okezone.com, Jawapos.com, and CNBCIndonesia.com. The tool used to analyze the interview results was NVivo 14. The naturalistic-interpretive paradigm influenced this qualitative research. The study found that AI is still a new topic. However, several media companies have adopted AI at several levels of production. Okezone.com, CNBCIndonesia.com, and Narasi.tv, for example, have optimized AI for data processing and news distribution. Meanwhile, other media such as Jawapos.com and Antaranews.com are still using it in the early stages, for example, in interview transcripts and media effectiveness analysis. The use of artificial intelligence further enhances personalization. This creates a filter bubble effect that increases dichotomy and polarization. This study provides an overview of the presence of AI in modern mass media in Indonesia.
