Abstract

This community development project evaluated the effectiveness of solar photovoltaic (PV) system adoption among poultry farmers facing high electricity costs and unreliable grid access. The intervention employed a three-phase approach: site assessment, training with pilot installation, and evaluation using pre-test/post-test instruments and performance monitoring. Results showed significant improvement in farmers' technical knowledge, particularly in component identification and maintenance. The pilot system consistently met nightly lighting needs under clear conditions, though performance decreased during low irradiance, highlighting the need for backup integration. Economic assessment indicated positive long-term feasibility when accounting for tariff inflation. Adoption behavior varied between participants, with hands-on involvement proving more effective for technology acceptance. This initiative confirms that solar PV integration in small-scale poultry farming is technically and educationally viable. Future efforts should focus on capacity expansion, environmental monitoring, and hybrid system integration to ensure operational reliability and broader rural scalability.
