Abstract

Abstrak - Perkembangan teknologi informasi yang semakin pesat mendorong kebutuhan akan pemahaman mendalam terhadap arsitektur jaringan komputer, khususnya model client-server yang menjadi fondasi berbagai layanan digital saat ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan mensimulasikan jaringan berbasis topologi bintang (star topology) pada model client-server menggunakan perangkat lunak Cisco Packet Tracer. Perancangan dilakukan dengan menggunakan komponen jaringan yang terdiri dari 1 unit server, 4 unit personal computer (PC), 2 unit switch, 1 unit router, serta penambahan modem DSL dan cloud untuk simulasi konektivitas internet. Konfigurasi dilakukan melalui penetapan alamat IP secara manual pada masing-masing perangkat, diikuti dengan pengujian konektivitas menggunakan perintah ping dan fitur simulasi PDU (Protocol Data Unit) pada Cisco Packet Tracer. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa seluruh skenario pengiriman data, meliputi komunikasi PC ke PC dalam satu switch, PC ke PC antar switch berbeda, PC ke server, serta server ke router, berhasil dilaksanakan dengan status successful. Penggunaan topologi bintang terbukti efektif dalam meminimalkan dampak kegagalan jaringan karena hanya mempengaruhi satu perangkat tanpa mengganggu keseluruhan jaringan. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap pemahaman konseptual dan praktis tentang perancangan jaringan client-server, serta dapat dijadikan referensi pembelajaran dalam bidang administrasi jaringan komputer. Katakunci : Cisco Packet Tracer; Jaringan Komputer; Client-Server; Topologi Bintang; Konfigurasi IP Address;  Abstract - The rapid development of information technology has driven the need for a deeper understanding of computer network architecture, particularly the client-server model, which serves as the foundation of various digital services today. This research aims to design and simulate a star topology-based network in a client-server model using Cisco Packet Tracer software. The design employs network components consisting of 1 server unit, 4 personal computers (PCs), 2 switches, 1 router, along with a DSL modem and cloud for internet connectivity simulation. Configuration was performed through manual IP address assignment on each device, followed by connectivity testing using the ping command and the PDU (Protocol Data Unit) simulation feature in Cisco Packet Tracer. Test results indicate that all data transmission scenarios, including PC-to-PC communication within the same switch, PC-to-PC communication across different switches, PC-to-server, and server-to-router, were successfully executed with a successful status. The use of star topology has proven effective in minimizing the impact of network failures, as a single device failure does not disrupt the entire network. This research contributes to the conceptual and practical understanding of client-server network design and can serve as a learning reference in the field of computer network administration.
