Abstract

ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) triggers severe chest pain due to coronary occlusion, risking increased cardiac workload. Non-pharmacological management, such as Benson's Relaxation, is required as a complementary therapy. This scientific paper aims to analyze nursing care and the effectiveness of Benson's Relaxation Technique in reducing chest pain intensity among STEMI patients in the ICCU at RSD Gunung Jati, Cirebon City. This study used a descriptive qualitative design with a case study approach on Mrs. O (46 years old) presenting with Anteroseptal STEMI. Data were collected through anamnesis, observation, and medical records, with validity ensured via triangulation. The Benson intervention was administered for 15 minutes per session over 3 days. During the initial assessment, the patient presented with severe chest pain (scale 7) and hemodynamic instability (BP: 155/95 mmHg, HR: 110 bpm). The primary nursing diagnosis established was Acute Pain. After 3 days of intervention, the pain decreased progressively from a scale of 7 to 0 (pain completely resolved) and vital signs improved significantly (BP: 122/78 mmHg, HR: 76 bpm). Benson's Relaxation Technique is effective and safe to be utilized as a complementary therapy to reduce chest pain intensity and stabilize hemodynamic status in STEMI patients within the intensive care unit.
