Abstract

The individual's critical thinking ability can be hampered by various cognitive distortions, one of them is confirmation bias. This bias often exists as a result of excessive scrolling addiction. This research examines the relationship between scrolling addiction and confirmation bias, as well as to test the role of cognitive flexibility as a moderating variable in this relationship. This study employed a quantitative approach involving 154 participants. Data were analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis to examine both direct relationships and moderation effects. The findings reveal that scrolling addiction has a significant positive association with confirmation bias (r = 0.311). Furthermore, the moderation analysis demonstrates that cognitive flexibility significantly influences the strength of the relationship between scrolling addiction and confirmation bias, as indicated by a higher R-squared value from 0.097 to 0.268. These findings suggest that cognitive flexibility plays a moderating role in the relationship between scrolling addiction and confirmation bias.
