Abstract

This study focuses on the subalterns of Narnia within the screenplay of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian by Andrew Adamson et al. (2008). The objective of this research is to identify the factors causing subalternity among the Narnians. The author employs Spivak’s theory and utilizes a qualitative approach. Data were collected through close reading, coding, and classification. Data analysis was conducted in six stages based on the method proposed by Creswell: preparing and organizing data for analysis, exploring and coding data, describing findings and forming themes, presenting and reporting findings, interpreting findings, and validating the accuracy of findings. The analysis reveals three factors causing subalternity: control over knowledge and representation, discriminatory social structures, and the domination of power. This research is expected to contribute to future studies and foster reader interest in postcolonial studies.

Abstract

Father involvement plays an essential role in supporting children's emotional, social, and psychological development, particularly in widowed single-parent families where fathers assume full parenting responsibilities after the death of a spouse. This study aims to analyzed how Joe Warr demonstrates father involvement as a widowed single father in The Boys Are Back (2009) through the dimensions of engagement, accessibility, and responsibility. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The primary data consisted of selected dialogues, visual scenes, body movements, and other forms of nonverbal communication from the film. The data were collected through repeated observation, identification of relevant scenes and dialogues, categorization based on Michael E. Lamb's Fatherhood Theory, and organization into analytical tables. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis based on the three dimensions of father involvement proposed by Michael E. Lamb (1981): engagement, accessibility, and responsibility. The findings reveal that Joe Warr demonstrates all three dimensions throughout the film. Among them, engagement emerges as the most dominant dimension, reflected in his active participation in his children's daily activities, emotional communication, shared experiences, and continuous efforts to strengthen the father–child relationship. Accessibility and responsibility are also evident through Joe's consistent physical and emotional presence and his commitment to ensuring his children's well-being. The study concludes that father involvement extends beyond financial support and is fundamentally reflected through emotional presence, accessibility, and long-term parental commitment in the context of widowed single fatherhood.

Abstract

This research analyzes the identity fluidity of the character Elly Conway in Matthew Vaughn's movie Argylle (2024). This study aims to identify the evidence of Elly Conway's fluid identity based on Jane Kroger theory, observe the factors that cause Elly to keep changing her identity, and analyze the reasons Elly chooses one dominant identity at the end of the film. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with data sources consisting of Elly Conway's dialogues throughout the film. The data were analyzed using Jane Kroger identity development theory and James Marcia identity status theory. The findings reveal that Elly Conway experiences fluid identity characterized by changes in personal identity, social identity, and cultural identity. Psychological trauma and stress proved to be the primary drivers of identity change, followed by sociocultural factors and life transitions. By the end of the film, Elly achieves identity achievement by choosing her identity as a novelist who integrates her experiences as a secret agent. This research contributes to the development of identity theory in film and literary studies by demonstrating that identity can be fluid and can be stabilized through processes of exploration and integration.

Abstract

This study analyzes community participation and collective action in David Derrick Jr.'s Moana 2 movie script in the context of ecological restoration. The objective of this study is to examine the manner in which community participation and collective action are depicted in the context of ecological restoration in the script. The present study employs a qualitative descriptive method, utilizing Cheryll Glotfelty's (1996) Ecocriticism as the theoretical framework. The data were obtained from dialogues and scene descriptions in the Moana 2 movie script and analyzed through data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that community participation and collective action are manifested through cooperative behaviors, shared responsibility, collective decision-making processes, and joint efforts aimed at environmental restoration and the revitalization of communal bonds. These representations demonstrate that ecological restoration is achieved through active participation and cooperation among communities. The study posits that Moana 2 presents community participation and collective action as integral components of ecological restoration, underscoring the interconnection between environmental recovery, collective responsibility, and human interaction with nature.
