Abstract

Nutritional problems among children under five remain a major public health concern in Indonesia, as indicated by the high prevalence of stunting, wasting, underweight, and overweight. Appropriate complementary feeding (Makanan Pendamping Air Susu Ibu/MP-ASI) during the first 1,000 days of life is an essential strategy to prevent malnutrition. However, inadequate maternal nutrition literacy often contributes to inappropriate complementary feeding practices. This community service program aimed to improve the nutrition literacy of pregnant women and mothers of children under five regarding appropriate MP-ASI practices through leaflet-based nutrition education. The program was conducted in January 2026 at Damping Village Hall, Serang Regency, Banten Province, involving 25 participants. Educational activities consisted of lectures and interactive discussions supported by leaflets. Participants' nutrition literacy was assessed using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The evaluation showed that 19 participants (76%) demonstrated improved nutrition literacy following the intervention. These findings indicate that leaflet-based nutrition education indicate an improvement participants' understanding of appropriate complementary feeding practices. Continuous implementation of similar educational programs is expected to improve maternal nutrition literacy, promote appropriate complementary feeding practices, and contribute to optimal child growth and the prevention of malnutrition among children under five.
