Abstract

The swift evolution of digital technology has fundamentally altered the behavior of children, particularly Generation Alpha, who have been digitally integrated since birth. This shift raises critical concerns regarding students' emotional growth, specifically their proficiency in managing emotions. This research investigates how gadget dependency affects the emotional regulation skills of students at MI Raudlatul Ulum 1 Brangkal Jombang. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the study gathered data through direct observations, comprehensive interviews, and archival analysis involving school administrators, teachers, parents, and students. The results indicate an alarmingly high frequency of gadget usage, primarily driven by recreational interests such as online gaming, video consumption, and social media engagement. Excessive and unmonitored screen time is shown to detrimental effect on students' physical health, academic engagement, and psychological equilibrium. Observed symptoms include diminished self-discipline, emotional instability, lack of focus, and social withdrawal. Furthermore, students often exhibit irritability or resistance when gadget usage is restricted. These results validate that gadget addiction significantly impairs students' ability to handle emotional triggers appropriately. Consequently, a robust partnership between schools and households is essential to foster responsible digital habits that support optimal emotional development.
