Abstract

This study aims to determine the recount text writing skills of first-grade students at SDIT Ad-Da'wah Jakarta. The method used in this study is a descriptive mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, with a sample of 16 students. Data were collected through document analysis of students' written work obtained from teacher archives. The assessment covers five aspects: text structure, story content, spelling and punctuation usage, vocabulary selection, and neatness and legibility of writing. The results indicate that 43.75% demonstrated good recount text writing skills, 50% were in the fairly good category, and 6.25% fell into the poor category. The lowest average score was found in the spelling aspect, indicating that several students have not yet developed adequate proficiency in the use of capital letters and punctuation marks in accordance with the Indonesian Spelling Guidelines (PUEBI). Therefore, efforts are needed to improve students' writing skills through enjoyable, contextual, and multisensory learning methods in order to optimize the development of writing skills among first-grade students.
