Abstract

This study aims to develop interactive learning media using the Lumi Education platform based on H5P for eighth-grade students of SMP/MTs (Junior High School), in response to the limitations of conventional approaches that lack dynamic visualization. The method employed in this study is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model, which encompasses five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The developed media integrates Discovery Learning syntax through multimedia elements such as interactive videos, images, and formative evaluations, thereby promoting active student engagement throughout the learning process. Media validity was assessed by three expert validators two multimedia specialists and one science teacher using Aiken's V formula applied to 38 instrument items covering four aspects: design, pedagogy, content, and technical quality. The validation results yielded an overall index of 0.805, which falls within the high validity category. The pedagogical aspect received the highest score, with several indicators reaching a value of V = 0.917, reflecting that the learning media has met the required educational standards and is highly appropriate for use in supporting classroom instructional activities. The design aspect also excelled in terms of color composition and the function of supporting images (V = 0.917). Overall, the H5P-based Lumi Education learning media is declared valid and suitable for implementation in science learning at the SMP/MTs level, with recommendations for improvement in navigation flexibility and assessment instruments. Abstract

The science laboratory plays an important role in supporting science learning through practical activities that can improve students’ science process skills, conceptual understanding, and critical thinking abilities. However, the utilization of science laboratories in schools still faces various challenges, causing their functions to be less than optimal. This study aimed to analyze the utilization of the science laboratory at MTs Negeri 1 Kampar based on the aspects of planning, organizing, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving the principal, laboratory coordinator, and science teachers. Data were analyzed descriptively to provide a comprehensive understanding of laboratory utilization. The findings revealed that the utilization of the science laboratory at MTs Negeri 1 Kampar has not been optimal. In terms of planning, practical schedules were not systematically arranged, the procurement of laboratory equipment and materials was not conducted regularly, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) were not consistently implemented. Regarding organization, the laboratory manager also served as a science teacher, resulting in less effective laboratory management. In the implementation aspect, practical activities were limited due to inadequate facilities, equipment, materials, and laboratory conditions. Furthermore, monitoring and evaluation activities were not conducted regularly and lacked proper documentation. Therefore, improvements in laboratory management are needed through the provision of competent laboratory personnel, optimization of laboratory facilities and infrastructure, consistent implementation of SOPs, and strengthening of monitoring and evaluation systems to support the quality of science learning.
