Abstract

This study aims to conduct a descriptive-qualitative analysis of the role of social media from a sociological perspective in shaping sports culture among the younger generation based on recent literature. The research design employed a systematic literature review. Data were collected from the Google Scholar, SINTA, and Garuda databases within the publication period of 2020–2026. Data analysis was conducted descriptively to synthesize findings regarding the function of social media as an agent of socialization, a space for identity construction, and a creator of sports cultural norms among the younger generation. The findings indicate that social media acts as a new social structure that significantly transforms the meaning, practices, and cultural values of sports among young people. The use of social media is not only intended to access sports-related information, but also to build social identity, gain recognition, and strengthen social status among peers. From a sociological perspective, social media has become a hybrid public space that combines physical and digital interactions, while simultaneously serving as an arena of contestation between the educational values of sports and commercial-social pressures related to body appearance. The results of this study confirm that social media functions as a new social structure that significantly shapes sports culture in terms of lifestyle, community formation, and social norms among the younger generation.
