Abstract

School-Based Management (SBM) is an educational management approach that grants greater autonomy to schools in organizing and managing resources according to local needs and priorities. This concept has become increasingly relevant in improving the quality of education, particularly in the context of decentralization and educational reform in Indonesia. This article aims to comprehensively examine the concept of School-Based Management, including its fundamental principles, implementation strategies, supporting and inhibiting factors, and its impact on improving educational quality. This study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review method by analyzing various scientific journals, policy documents, and educational reports published between 2020 and 2026. The findings indicate that effective implementation of SBM can enhance school accountability, encourage stakeholder participation, improve administrative efficiency, and positively affect educational outcomes. However, several challenges remain, such as limited managerial capacity, unequal resource distribution, and inconsistent policy support. Therefore, strengthening leadership capacity, increasing community involvement, and continuous evaluation are essential to optimize SBM implementation in Indonesia.
