Abstract

The development of digital technology has influenced the communication patterns of elementary school students, including the use of digital vocabulary and spelling on social media. The use of slang, abbreviations, mixed languages, and modified spelling has become increasingly common and potentially affects students’ formal writing skills. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of digital vocabulary and spelling usage, the problems in writing skills, and their relationship to the writing skills of elementary school students. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The data consisted of 15 national journal articles obtained from Google Scholar and Garuda, which were analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings revealed that the use of digital language is dominated by slang, abbreviations, and spelling modifications that influence the use of standard language in formal writing. These influences can be seen in spelling accuracy, sentence structure, and the use of standard vocabulary, although digital language can also enhance students’ creativity and expression in writing. Therefore, the use of digital language has a relationship with students’ writing skills, so guidance and strengthening of language literacy are needed to maintain a balance between digital language use and proper Indonesian language proficiency.
