Abstract

This study discusses the cultivation of moral values among students at SMPN 42 Pekanbaru through Civics Education (PPKn) learning and character building programs at school. The study used an ethnographic approach within a qualitative framework, with data collection techniques including participant observation and in-depth interviews with teachers and students. The results show that moral education plays an important role in shaping students’ character, such as honesty, discipline, responsibility, tolerance, and mutual respect. The cultivation of moral values is carried out through group discussions, student collaboration activities, the application of norms in daily life, as well as religious and character reflection programs routinely implemented at school. In addition, teachers act as role models and mentors in shaping positive student behavior. However, the process of moral education also faces several challenges, such as the influence of technology and social media, lack of parental supervision, and low selfawareness among some students to improve themselves. Therefore, cooperation between schools, families, and the community is needed so that the moral development of students can run optimally. This study shows that moral education carried out consistently and continuously can help students become individuals with good character and able to apply moral values in everyday life.
