Abstract

This study explores the role of the principal in enhancing teacher performance at MI Madinatunnajah, South Tangerang City. The research is grounded in the premise that effective school leadership serves as a pivotal factor in fostering a productive and conducive work environment that supports the overall improvement of educational quality. The principal’s role extends beyond administrative duties to encompass functions as a motivator, supervisor, and innovator who directs teachers toward professional excellence and strong commitment to their pedagogical responsibilities. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that the principal actively contributes to teacher performance improvement through systematic supervision and mentoring, motivation and reward mechanisms, professional development initiatives, and the creation of a collaborative and communicative organizational climate. These strategies have been shown to enhance teachers’ discipline, accountability, and enthusiasm in the teaching and learning process. Challenges such as time constraints and limited facilities are addressed through adaptive management practices and cooperative engagement among school stakeholders. Overall, the findings underscore the significant contribution of the principal’s leadership in fostering improved teacher performance within the context of Islamic primary education.
