Abstract

Classroom layout is an important component in creating an active, comfortable learning environment that supports student engagement in the learning process. However, the learning process in the current digital era still faces digital distraction problems characterized by low learning focus, decreased student social interaction, and high use of non-learning digital devices during learning activities. These conditions indicate that the learning environment in the classroom has not been fully designed flexibly and adaptively to support effective and collaborative learning. This study aims to describe a flexible classroom based on PAKEM as an interactive learning strategy through a study of the form of classroom arrangement that supports interaction, classroom arrangement patterns according to PAKEM principles. This study uses a library research method with a descriptive-qualitative approach. Data were obtained from scientific articles published in the last 10 years obtained through the Google Scholar, DOAJ, and Garuda Portal databases, with selection criteria for theme relevance, journal indexing, and suitability of the Islamic educational context relevant to classroom layout and PAKEM learning. Data analysis techniques used textual and conceptual content analysis. The research results show that flexible and collaborative classroom arrangements can increase student engagement in learning through group seating patterns, flexible seating, and interactive discussion spaces. These findings confirm that flexible classrooms based on PAKEM can be an effective pedagogical strategy for creating active, creative, effective, and enjoyable learning in the digital era.
