Abstract

This study aims to describe the proces of learning batik tulis and the results of batik tulis works by eleventh-grade students of SMKN 4 Pariaman. This study used a qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The results show that the batik tulis learning process is carried out in stages, starting from the presentation of theoretical material, design creation, coloring, applying water glass, and rolling the batik cloth. Several obstacles were encountered in the implementation, such as students’ lack of understanding of the theoretical material, suboptimal canting skills, and limeted practical facilities. The stundents’ work cosists of batik tulis scarves with various regional motifs creatively combined. Aesthetically, the students’ work has a quite attractive color combination and motif arrangement, but still has weaknesses such as wide, broken canting lines and less than neat coloring.
