Abstract

Fine motor development is an important component of early childhood development, which is intricately linked to the ability to coordinate smaller muscles, especially the hands and fingers. This investigation was motivated by the observed deficits in fine motor skills in 4-5 year old children at Bina Berma Kindergarten, Bengkulu, which include challenges in grasping, sticking, and systematically arranging objects. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the impact of grain collagen media on children's fine motor skills. This study employed a quantitative methodology using a quasi-experimental framework, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study participants consisted of 10 children from Group A, aged 4-5 years. Data collection was conducted through observational techniques using a fine motor assessment instrument. The data were further subjected to analysis through descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The findings revealed that the average pretest score of 14.1 increased to 18.4 in the posttest assessment. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a significance level of 0.02 ≤ 0.05, thus indicating a statistically significant effect of the grain collagen intervention on children's fine motor skills. Consequently, the grain collagen medium can be considered an effective and engaging pedagogical alternative for improving fine motor skills among contemporary youth.
