Abstract

This study aims to describe the integration of student-centered learning within the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) as a strategy for developing students' character and problem-solving skills. This study used a descriptive qualitative method, with 77 fifth and sixth grade students and eight teachers as participants. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, an open-ended Google Form questionnaire completed by the eight teachers, and documentation of student learning activities. The results indicate that the integration of student-centered learning within IPC encourages students to be more active and dominant in the classroom learning process. This approach provides meaningful opportunities for students to develop activeness, build independence, and foster creativity. Furthermore, students demonstrated improved abilities in developing independent problem-solving strategies, critical thinking, and evaluating their work. This approach has been shown to effectively shape students' character, such as the courage to express solutions and opinions, the ability to respect others' ideas, and an attitude of responsibility and cooperation in the learning process. Thus, the integration of student-centered learning within IPC-based learning is effective in supporting the development of both cognitive and affective aspects of elementary school students.
