Abstract

Putat seeds (Barringtonia conoidea Griff.) are a local biological resource with the potential to be utilized as a natural ingredient in liquid soap production due to their presumed saponin content, which can generate foam and exhibit antibacterial properties. However, their application as a raw material for liquid soap remains relatively unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of liquid soap perlakuanted with putat seed extract at different concentrations. An experimental method was employed using four treatment concentrations of putat seed extract: 0%, 5%, 7%, and 9%. The observed parameters included pH, homogeneity, foam height, organoleptic properties, and irritation potential. Data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively using the average values of each parameter and compared with the quality standards for liquid soap. The results showed that all perlakuantions had pH values ranging from 8.3 to 10 and met the required liquid soap quality standards. All perlakuantions were homogeneous, with no evidence of clumping or phase separation. The addition of putat seed extract increased both foam height and foam stability, with the 9% perlakuantion producing the highest foam height of 105 mm and foam stability of 92.67%. In general, increasing concentrations of Barringtonia conoidea Griff. seed extract positively influenced the physical characteristics of the liquid soap, particularly in terms of foam height and pH. Therefore, Barringtonia conoidea Griff. seed extract has been proven to be utilizable as a natural ingredient in liquid soap perlakuantion with physical characteristics that meet the quality standards of SNI 2588:2017.
