Abstract

This study was motivated by the low cognitive learning outcomes of students in physics, especially on harmonic oscillation material, caused by teacher-centered learning and limited laboratory facilities. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Guided Inquiry learning model based on simple KIT on students' cognitive learning outcomes in harmonic oscillation material for grade XI senior high school students. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a posttest only control group design. The sample consisted of 36 students in the experimental class and 35 students in the control class at SMA Negeri 17 Pekanbaru, selected using total sampling technique. The research instrument was a cognitive learning outcomes test consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions covering C1–C6 cognitive levels. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential analysis with SPSS 26. The results showed that the average cognitive learning outcome score of the experimental class was 77.64, while the control class was 70.57. Hypothesis testing using Independent Samples T-Test obtained t-value of 2.116 with significance value of 0.038 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between both classes. Therefore, the Guided Inquiry learning model based on simple KIT had a significant positive effect on students' cognitive learning outcomes in harmonic oscillation material.
