Abstract

Metacognitive awareness and learning styles are factors suspected to be related to students' cognitive biology learning outcomes. Students' ability to understand appropriate learning strategies and manage their thinking processes plays an important role in improving their understanding of biology material. This study aims to determine the relationship between metacognitive awareness and learning styles with the cognitive biology learning outcomes of phase F students at SMA Negeri 2 Muaro Jambi. The study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study population was 130 grade XI phase F students of SMA Negeri 2 Muaro Jambi in the 2025/2026 academic year. The sampling technique used total sampling so that the entire population was used as a research sample. Data collection was carried out through a metacognitive awareness questionnaire, a learning style questionnaire, and a cognitive biology learning outcome test. Data analysis used the Pearson Product Moment correlation test and multiple correlations with the help of SPSS. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between metacognitive awareness and cognitive biology learning outcomes (r = 0.451; sig. = 0.000) and learning styles with cognitive biology learning outcomes (r = 0.357; sig. = 0.000). Simultaneously, metacognitive awareness and learning styles have a relationship with cognitive learning outcomes in biology (R = 0.528) with a contribution of 27.9%.
