Abstract

The oil and gas industry is a high-risk sector that requires effective communication and active employee involvement to support workplace safety and operational success. One important proactive behavior in high-risk work environments is speaking up, which refers to employees’ willingness to express information, ideas, suggestions, or concerns to individuals in positions of authority. This behavior is believed to be influenced by psychological safety, defined as the perception that the work environment is safe for interpersonal risk-taking without fear of negative consequences. This study aims to examine the relationship between psychological safety and speaking up among wireline division employees in an oil and gas drilling service company in Sumatra. The study employs a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. Data are collected using psychological safety and speaking up scales administered to wireline employees. Data analysis is conducted using correlation analysis to determine the relationship between the two variables. The findings are expected to reveal a positive relationship between psychological safety and speaking up, indicating that employees who perceive higher levels of psychological safety are more likely to voice information, ideas, and concerns related to safety and operational effectiveness. The results are expected to contribute to the organizational behavior literature in the oil and gas sector and provide practical recommendations for organizations seeking to foster open communication and improve workplace safety.
