Abstract

Self-confidence is an important factor that helps students express their opinions, interact with others, and participate actively in learning. However, some students still feel shy, lack confidence, and are afraid of making mistakes when speaking in front of others. This study aimed to examine the role of peer influence and interpersonal communication in strengthening students’ self-confidence, as well as to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants were Class X students, homeroom teachers, and a Civic Education teacher at MA Al Fattahiyyah. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that peer influence and interpersonal communication play an important role in strengthening students’ self-confidence. Positive support from peers makes students feel accepted, appreciated, and more confident in expressing their opinions and participating in classroom activities. Good interpersonal communication also helps students become more active, courageous, and comfortable in social interactions. Supporting factors include positive friendships, teacher support, and a comfortable learning environment. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include shyness, fear of making mistakes, and lack of confidence in one's own abilities. In conclusion, positive peer influence and effective interpersonal communication contribute significantly to strengthening the self-confidence of Class X students at MA Al Fattahiyyah.
