Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 060971 in the subject of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS), where the average initial score of students only reached 62 and the percentage of classical completion was only 28.6%, below the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) of 70. This problem was triggered by the dominance of traditional lecture methods that made students passive. The purpose of this study was to improve students' participation and learning outcomes in IPAS through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was carried out in two cycles, with research subjects covering all 14 fourth-grade students. The results of the study showed a significant and consistent increase in learning outcomes at each stage. The average class score increased from 62 in the initial condition to 72 in the first cycle, and reached 83 in the second cycle. Correspondingly, the percentage of students' classical mastery jumped from 28.6% in the pre-action phase to 57.1% in the first cycle, and finally reached 92.9% in the second cycle. This final achievement exceeded the established success indicator of 80% or more. In conclusion, the PBL learning model has proven effective in improving the competency of fourth-grade students in science learning outcomes.
