Abstract

The devel of social media has encouraged the emergence of various forms of slang among Generation Z students. One interesting linguistic phenomenon to study is affixation, which is the process of forming words through the addition of affixes (Kridalaksana, 2019). This study aims to describe the forms, functions, and meanings of affixation used in slang language by Generation Z students on social media. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with observation, documentation, and note-taking techniques. Data were collected from posts, comments, and conversations across various social media platforms. The results show that the most frequently used affixes are the prefixes nge-, di-, and ter-, as well as the suffix -in. These affixes function to form new words and convey specific meanings according to the needs of digital communication. The findings indicate that affixation remains productive in the development of slang language and reflects the linguistic creativity of Generation Z students in the digital era (Wulandari & Pratiwi, 2025).
