Abstract

This study aimed to improve students' learning motivation in Mathematics through the use of Wayground software as an interactive learning medium at SMK PGRI 13 Surabaya. The study was motivated by the low level of students' learning motivation and participation in Mathematics classes, which were still dominated by conventional teaching methods, such as lectures and the use of whiteboards, making the learning process monotonous and less engaging. This study employed a quantitative approach using Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 37 students of Class X TKJ 1 at SMK PGRI 13 Surabaya. The research instruments included a learning motivation questionnaire using a Likert scale, student activity observation sheets, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis by comparing the results of the preliminary stage, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The findings showed that the implementation of Wayground effectively improved students' learning motivation. The average motivation score increased from 3.24 (81.00%) in the preliminary stage to 3.35 (83.75%) in Cycle I and 3.57 (89.25%) in Cycle II, representing an overall improvement of 8.25%. Student activity also increased from the good category (3.14) in Cycle I to the very good category (3.86) in Cycle II. Therefore, Wayground is considered an effective interactive learning medium for enhancing students' motivation in Mathematics learning at vocational high schools.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning motivation of class X TKJ 1 student at SMK PGRI 13 Surabaya in mathematics. Based on initial observations, students found mathematics difficult and boring, and the teacher still used lecture methods without variations in learning media. The aims of this study were to determine students' responses and the effect of using Wayground software on students' learning motivation. The research used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method of the Kemmis and McTaggart model conducted in two cycles. The research subjects were 37 students of class X TKJ 1. Data collection techniques used learning motivation questionnaires, observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that students' responses to Wayground were very positive with the average observation score increasing from 3.14 (Good) in cycle I to 4.00 (Very Good) in cycle II. Students' learning motivation also increased significantly from 83.75% in cycle I to 92.50% in cycle II, with an increase of 8.75%. The number of students in the Very High motivation category increased from 75.68% to 91.89%. All motivation indicators increased, with learning preparation being the highest increase (+0.24) and learning focus improving. The conclusion of this study is that the use of Wayground software is effective in increasing students' learning motivation and received very positive responses. This research is expected to be a reference for teachers in developing innovative and interactive technology-based mathematics learning.
