Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using educational podcast media in improving students’ understanding of biographical texts in Grade X of SMA Parulian 2 Medan in the Academic Year 2025/2026. The background of this research is based on students’ low comprehension of biographical texts and the use of conventional learning media that tend to be less engaging. The research method used is an experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The population of this study consists of all Grade X students, with the sample divided into two groups: the control class and the experimental class. The control class was taught without using educational podcast media, while the experimental class was taught using educational podcast media. Data were collected through a biographical text comprehension test. The data analysis techniques included normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that the average score of students’ understanding of biographical texts in the control class was 57, while in the experimental class it was 86.2. This indicates a significant difference between the two groups. Therefore, the use of educational podcast media is proven to be more effective in improving students’ understanding of biographical texts compared to conventional teaching methods. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that educational podcast media is effective as a learning tool to enhance students’ comprehension of biographical texts, as well as to improve learning outcomes and student engagement in the Indonesian language learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using Wordwall media on the news writing skills of eleventh-grade TKJ students at SMK Swasta Indonesia Membangun 1 Medan. The research methodology used was quantitative with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The subjects consisted of 25 students selected through saturated sampling. The instrument used in this study was a news writing skills test administered through a pretest and posttest. The results of the data analysis showed that the average pretest score before using Wordwall media was 54,2, which is in the poor category, while the average posttest score after using Wordwall media was 75,5, which is in the good category. Hypothesis testing using a t-test showed a calculated t-value of 8,01, while the t-table at a significance level of 0.05 was 2.01. Based on this comparison, it can be concluded that t count > t table, which means the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of Wordwall media has a positive and significant effect on students' ability to write news texts.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low anecdotal writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 21 Medan, caused by a lack of interest in writing, limited learning media, and the dominance of conventional methods that make students less active and less engaged in learning. This study aims to: (1) describe students' anecdotal writing skills before the Concept Sentence model was implemented using digital webtoon comics; (2) describe students' anecdotal writing skills after the model was implemented; and (3) determine the effect of its implementation on anecdotal writing skills. The method used was a quantitative experiment with a One Group Pretest–Posttest design. The study population was all eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 21 Medan (134 students, 4 classes). The sample was selected through simple random sampling, with 32 students from class XI B selected. The research instrument was a descriptive anecdotal writing test assessed based on five aspects: appropriateness of content to title, spelling accuracy, anecdotal text characteristics, structural completeness, and linguistic rules. The results showed an average pre-test score of 63.82 (poor) and increased to78.12 in the post-test (good). Liliefors' normality test showed both data were normally distributed (L count < L table), and the homogeneity test showed homogeneous data (F count = 1.14 < F table = 1.84). Hypothesis testing using a t- test yielded t count = 6.45 > t table = 1.99 at a significance level of α = 0.05, thus H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. It was concluded that the Concept Sentence model assisted by digital webtoon comics had a significant effect on the anecdotal writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 21 Medan. This model was proven effective in improving students' ability to compose anecdotal texts systematically and according to rules, while also increasing student motivation and activeness in learning.
