Abstract

This study aims to understand the relationship between students' self-confidence levels and their speaking abilities, specifically among fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Kota Wetan during the 2025/2026 academic year. The study employs a quantitative approach specifically a descriptive-correlational design with a saturated sample of 40 students. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS. As the speaking skill data were not normally distributed, hypothesis testing was conducted using Spearman's Rank correlation. The results show a correlation coefficient of 0.620 with a significance level of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a strong, positive relationship between the two variables; thus, hypothesis H1 is accepted. The coefficient of determination of 38.44% indicates the contribution of self-confidence to speaking skills, while the remaining 61.56% is influenced by other factors. It is concluded that higher student self-confidence is associated with better speaking skills.
