Abstract

This study aims to analyze misconceptions found in the Science and Social Studies (IPAS) textbook for Grade VI of the Merdeka Curriculum. The research employed a qualitative approach using content analysis. Data were collected through documentation by examining science-related materials in the textbook and analyzed based on misconception categories, namely misidentification, overgeneralization, oversimplification, obsolete concepts and terms, and undergeneralization. The results revealed eight misconceptions related to Earth's rotation, communication during power outages, global warming, renewable energy, the structure of the solar system and galaxies, fossil fuel depletion predictions, the causes of seasons, and the functions of the nervous system. These misconceptions have the potential to lead students to develop inaccurate understandings of scientific concepts, particularly in astronomy, energy, environmental science, and human body systems. The impacts include incomplete conceptual understanding, difficulties in connecting scientific concepts, and the persistence of conceptual errors in subsequent levels of education. Therefore, revisions and improvements to the textbook content are necessary to ensure scientific accuracy, align with current scientific developments, support effective learning, and enhance students' scientific literacy.
