Abstract

This article examines the role of chain poetry learning in developing literary literacy among senior high school students in the 21st century, with a case study conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Bodeh. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with a participatory observation approach in Grade XI classes. Chain poetry is a collaborative writing technique in which each student contributes several lines of a poem before passing it on to the next group member, until a complete poem is collectively formed. Observational findings revealed that this activity successfully generated high enthusiasm, encouraged active collaboration, and boosted students' confidence in literary expression. However, some students struggled to continue their peers' lines, highlighting the critical role of structured scaffolding and continuous guidance in ensuring the activity's success. Overall, chain poetry learning proved effective in creating meaningful learning experiences, fostering authentic literary literacy, and developing students' communication and teamwork skills in line with 21st-century competency demands.
