Abstract

This study aims to enhance the engagement of fifth-grade elementary school students in physical fitness lessons through the implementation of a game-based learning model. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology conducted over two cycles, each comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were 38 fifth-grade students (18 boys and 20 girls) at SDN Bareng 1, Malang City. Data were collected using observation sheets and questionnaires to measure student engagement levels during the learning process. The results indicate that the game-based learning model successfully increased student engagement. Initial observations showed an engagement level of 44% (low category), which rose to 79% by the second meeting of Cycle I (moderate category), and further increased to 83% and 86% in Cycle II (good category). This improvement occurred because game-based learning fostered a more active, interactive, and enjoyable learning environment through various physical games. Thus, it can be concluded that the game-based learning model is effective in enhancing student engagement in physical education at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a variety of physical fitness games focusing on muscle strength using a flipbook for fourth-grade students at Bareng 1 Public Elementary School. The development of this medium was motivated by the lack of game variety in physical education classes, which often leads students to become bored and less active during learning activities. The flipbook medium was chosen because it can present material in an engaging, interactive, and easily accessible way for both students and teachers. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects consisted of 1 content expert, 1 media expert, and 38 fourth-grade students at Bareng 1 Public Elementary School. Data collection techniques included an expert validation questionnaire and a student response questionnaire. The validation results from the content expert indicated that the product received a “highly valid” rating with a feasibility percentage of 97%, while the validation results from the media expert also received a “highly valid” rating with a percentage of 95%. Furthermore, the implementation results among students were 96.74% and among physical education teachers were 97.46%. Student and physical education teacher responses to the use of the flipbook also indicated a “highly valid” category, as the medium was deemed engaging, easy to use, and helpful in boosting learning motivation during physical fitness activities. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the variety of physical fitness games focusing on muscle strength using flipbooks is suitable for use as a teaching medium in physical education for fourth-grade students at Bareng 1 Public Elementary School.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' fundamental running and jumping skills through the implementation of the traditional games engklek and gobak sodor within Physical Education (PJOK) lessons. The study employed the Classroom Action Research method based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted over two cycles comprising the stages of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects were 28 fourth-grade students (15 boys and 13 girls) from SD Negeri 1 Bareng, Malang City. Data collection techniques included observation, fundamental movement skill tests, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis utilized both quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques. The results indicate that implementing the traditional games engklek and gobak sodor successfully improved the students' fundamental running and jumping skills. This is evidenced by the increase in the students' average score from 68.21 in the pre-action stage to 75.36 in Cycle I, rising further to 84.11 in Cycle II. The percentage of learning mastery also increased from 46.43% in the pre-action stage to 67.86% in Cycle I, reaching 89.29% in Cycle II. In addition to enhancing motor skills, the use of traditional games improved student participation, learning motivation, and cooperation during lessons. Thus, the traditional games engklek and gobak sodor serve as effective alternative instructional media in Physical Education for improving the fundamental movement skills of elementary school students.
