Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes was increasing worldwide. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates that 578 million people will suffer from diabetes in 2030 and 700 million people in 2045. Health education was an important aspect of diabetes management. Pocket book media was a type of information media that can disseminate various information, especially regarding broader material. This research was conducted to determine the effect of the type 2 diabetes mellitus healthy diet pocket book on the knowledge and compliance of type 2 diabetes outpatients in Arjasa Health Center, Jember Regency. This research was a quantitative experiment with a post-test only design and a sample of 50 respondents (total sampling) from two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. Data processing was analyzed using the wilcoxon signed rank test because the data was not normally distributed. The study revealed that the pocket book had no statistically significant effect on the knowledge of outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (p = 0.053). However, it demonstrated a significant effect on patient adherence (p = 0.000) at Arjasa Public Health Center, Jember Regency. The diabetes healthy diet pocketbook was effective in improving dietary adherence among patients, although it did not significantly enhance their knowledge. Developing more interactive educational media and conducting long-term adherence evaluations are recommended to increase the effectiveness of the intervention.
