Abstract

Microscopic algae play an important role as indicators of aquatic ecosystem health; however, their instruction in classrooms often faces challenges due to their minute size and abstract nature, making them difficult for students to comprehend. This study is a research and development (R&D) project using the ADDIE model, focusing on the development stage. It aims to describe the diversity of microscopic algae found in brackish water ponds in Muara Kintap Village and to evaluate the validity and readability of the developed e-handout. A descriptive method was used, involving two content experts, one media expert, and twelve students for the readability test. The results revealed 21 species of microscopic algae classified into three classes. The developed e-handout received an average score of 4.08 (very valid) in content validation, 4.85 (very valid) in media validation, and 4.33 (very good) in the readability test. These findings indicate that the e-handout is suitable as supplementary teaching material in biology learning, especially in the Cryptogamae course covering microscopic algae.
