Abstract

The family is the first and foremost institution of Islamic education, particularly in nurturing children's ability to read the Qur'an. This article examines the role of the family in children's Qur'anic education within the Indonesian Muslim community through a literature review method. Drawing on Islamic normative foundations and relevant educational theories, this study identifies five key dimensions of parental involvement in Qur'anic education: emotional support, instrumental support, informational guidance, family harmony, and direct parental engagement. The findings reveal that the family's role is not merely supplementary to formal schooling but constitutes the primary determinant of children's Qur'anic literacy. Contemporary challenges such as digital disruption, the erosion of family religious traditions, and limited parental competence in tajwid require adaptive strategies to restore and strengthen the family's central role in Qur'anic education. This article recommends a holistic approach that integrates family-based religious habituation with school-family collaboration programs as the foundation of effective Qur'anic education in Indonesia.
